High-Resolution Scanning

We use a Creo Scitex Eversmart flatbed scanner to produce high resolution scans directly from positive or negative film, flat artworks, photographs, and prints up to 11x17 inches. Our scanner's CCD incorporates the Creo XY stitching technology and features a 2700 dpi optical resolution, enabling us to provide "drum quality" scans without putting physical stress on the object being scanned. The sophisticated software interface provides the scanner operator with a wide range of pre-scan controls, allowing for color correction and sharpening at the scanning stage. Additionally, ICC profiling and state-of-the-art computer workstations ensure color and tonal accuracy throughout the scanning process. Each high resolution "Archive Scan" or "Digital Negative" is saved to a CD as an 8-bit RGB file in the IBM TIF format.

Derivative File Production:

The "Archive Scan" or "Digital Negative" is the file from which we produce derivative files, each with a specific set of characteristics unique to the output format. Derivative files can be prepared for a variety of uses, including film output, fine art printing, web and database use, and in cmyk printing processes. Derivative files generally require less computer memory and are easier to work with on average consumer level computers. We are able to create derivative files to match your specific needs and uses.

Benefits:

Some of the many benefits of high resolution scanning include:

  • Exceptional color and tonal quality
  • Excellent image sharpness
  • Large file size
  • De-screen printed images comprised of half tone dots
  • Color cast removable from old or faded film
  • Permanent preservation through digital negative archiving
  • Creates opportunities to self-publish
  • Smooth integration into web presentations and image databases
