Step One: preparing the file - Working from your "archive file," or "digital negative", we first view the image together on one of our color calibrated monitors and make minor color and tonal adjustments as needed. Additional adjustments and/or retouching are available at an additional charge.
Step Two: selecting the printing media - Next we review the variety of printing options available to you, taking into consideration the characteristics of the image. We ask you to select your favorite.
Step Three: soft-proofing - Soft-proofing the image on a computer monitor helps us analyze the image for any color and/or tonal shifts that might occur during the printing process. If necessary, we make an adjustment to compensate.
Step Four: sign-off - At this stage we ask you to view the image one final time on our monitor and commit to the color and tonal qualities as seen on screen. We will, to the best of our ability, match this image.
Step Five: optional Profile Proof - For an additional fee, we are happy to supply an 11x17 inch proof print that has four versions of your image printed on it. Each of the four versions represents a different color rendering profile, effectively showing you how the image will appear in different lighting situations - tungsten, daylight, and florescent. You can then view the proof in different lighting situations and decide which profile works best for your needs.
Ink On Paper Prints (inkjet): Our archival ink on paper prints represent the state-of-the-art in inkjet printing. We use Epson archival pigment inks and a variety of acid free papers from manufactures such as Epson, Hahnemuhle and Innova. For those projects that require something unique, we offer a variety of specialty paper including: translucent paper, watercolor paper and waterproof Tyvek. Please phone for details.
Photographic Paper (lightjet): Digital files can easily be printed onto photographic paper using the Cymbolic Sciences Lightjet printer. In this process, traditional photographic paper (Fuji Crystal Archive color photo paper) is exposed to light using red, green, and blue laser beams from color information provided by your digital file. The paper is available in page sizes up to 50x96 inches with three different surfaces to choose from: matte, gloss and translucent (for use in backlit displays. Mounting and laminating are also available.
Photographic Film: We can output digital files to Kodak EOF film (Electronic Output Film), which is available in 4x5 or 8x10 inch sheets. We can also make 35mm slides from your digital files.
