Collection Archiving Services:

In-house archiving: We offer our in-house scanning and direct digital photography services to picture collection administrators, artists, photographers and individuals who have unique and/or ongoing projects. These services are often offered at a discounted rate based on quantity, and include derivative file packages that address our clients' digital content needs.

On-site Archiving: For clients who are unable to bring their collection to our studio, we offer on-site digital photography services. Using our Sinar digital camera and Quad-X lighting equipment, we can photograph just about anything at your location. We treat each project as a unique situation and create a custom workflow based on our clients' needs. This service is available as a one-time session or, for larger projects, as an on-going service - several of our clients work with us on a monthly or quarterly basis.

Slide collection digitizing: For large collections of 35mm slides, as well as other film formats, we offer our slide digitization services. Perfect for art slide collections, this service focuses on creating digital files for use in computer projection presentations such as classroom discussions, as well as for use in slide library administration databases. Using either a Nikon or Sinar digital camera, we individually photograph each slide using a traditional slide duplicator. We then move each image through a digital darkroom sequence that includes sizing and naming - your collection naming structures can be easily integrated into our in-house workflow. Finally the files are saved to CD with an accompanying thumbnail reference sheet. The results are exceptional.

Benefits of a Digital Archive:

  • Achieve tighter color control when printing catalogs and newsletters
  • Reduce photography and scanning expenses
  • Integrate object metadata into your workflow
  • Reach new audiences through kiosk or Internet galleries
  • Permanently preserve a working copy of an original piece of art
  • Reduce wear and tear caused by handling artwork
  • Create a digital workflow within your office
  • Add a visual component to existing management databases
  • Eliminate the need to re-photograph artwork
  • Distribute low-resolution images to scholars around the world
  • Centralize and control distribution of digital images (content)
  • Create derivative files for use in publishing, databases, or Internet

Uses of a digital archive:

High resolution files can be used in the following ways:

  • Publish in art books and journals
  • Output back to transparency film
  • Output to a wide variety of commercial and consumer printers
  • Analyze a highly magnified section of the artwork
  • Produce a derivative file such as a tiff or jpeg

Medium-resolution derivative files can be used in the following ways:

  • Include on a disk in media kits
  • Publish in newsletters and editorial publications
  • Print on a desktop inkjet or laser printer
  • Create reference prints for academic research
  • Use in desktop publishing applications

Low-resolution derivative files can be used in the following ways:

  • Internet applications such as websites
  • Intranet applications such as computer labs and museum kiosks
  • Transmitting images via e-mail
  • Collection management databases
  • Digital slide shows
  • Multi-media presentations

Custom CD Jewel Case Design

We are very proud of the work we do. As a way to highlight that work, we can, for an additional charge, provide custom CD jewel case design that reflects the style of the collection contained on the disks. Each collection receives an overall visual design theme that includes detailed information, dates, locations, etc. Additionally, each CD includes a thumbnail sheet and file reference sheet to make browsing the collection easier.
